What is Vasectomy Reversals ?

Vasectomy reversal is a micro-surgical. During the procedure, the tubes (vas deferens) are reconnected, allowing sperm to pass through again.
Vasectomies can be reversed even after very long periods of time Sperm are constantly being produced in men and even after time, there should be viable sperm.
The chances of vasectomy reversal success depend on how much time has passed between the vasectomy and the reversal. Over time, additional blockages can form, and some men develop antibodies to their own sperm. Vasectomy reversal (vasovasostomy procedure) is performed at the Vasectomy Reversal Center . The shorter the time between vasectomy and vasectomy reversal, the greater the percentage of success, due to the minimized risk of epididymal damage and secondary obstruction. However, the presence of sperm granuloma at the testicular end of the vas predicts a high probability of success, regardless of the time interval since vasectomy. For optimal results, fluid samples from the testicular side should contain normal sperm, sperm heads or clear fluid. Sperm Production and Vasectomy Reversal

Sperm production occurs in the testis. After passage through the efferent ducts, sperm are stored and undergo maturation in the epididymis. The epididymis is a continuous, tightly coiled tube approximately 15-18 feet in length, which leads into the vas deferens. Sperm that have not passed through the epididymis are generally not able to fertilize eggs under normal conditions. The vas deferens is responsible for directed and propelling sperm into the urethra. The chances of vasectomy reversal success depend on how much time has passed between the vasectomy and the reversal. Over time, additional blockages can form, and some men develop antibodies to their own sperm. The surgery is more complicated and takes more time when blockage between the vas deferens and the epididymis requires correction (vasoepididymostomy).

Microsurgical Vasectomy Reversal – Vasovasostomy, Epididymovasostomy

A vasectomy reversal is a microsurgical operation that reestablishes a connection of the vas deferens, the tube that carries sperm into the ejaculate that was previously cut during a vasectomy. At the time of vasectomy reversal, two procedures are possible:
1. A vasovasostomy may be performed, which is when the two ends of the vas deferens are reconnected.
2. Sometimes an epididymovasostomy is performed, which is when the vas deferens is reconnected to the epididymis because of a secondary obstruction in the epididymis
